Abstract: (108 Views)
The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of group-based positive psychotherapy on sexism events and character strengths in women with premenstrual dysphoric disorder. The method of this study was a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test-post-test design and a control group. The statistical population was women with premenstrual dysphoric disorder referring to psychiatric centers, counseling centers, and health homes in Siahkal city in the second half of 2023, of which 39 people were selected by convenience sampling and were randomly assigned to two experimental groups (n=19) and control group (n=20). The experimental group received a positive group psychotherapy intervention based on the therapeutic package during eight 90-minute sessions, one session per week. Information collection tools premenstrual symptoms screening tool (PSST, Steinner & Brown, 2003), the schedule of sexist events (SSE, Klonoff & Landrine, 1995), and Values in Action Inventory of Strengths scale (VIA-IS, Seligman & Peterson, 2004). Data analysis was performed using multivariate analysis of covariance. The findings showed that there was a significant difference at the 0.01 level between the mean of the pretest and posttest of sexism events and character strengths in the two experimental and control groups, after controlling for the pretest effect. The results of this study indicate the usefulness of group-based positive psychotherapy on sexism events and character strengths in women with premenstrual dysphoric disorder, and it can be used as an effective intervention method in improving sexism events and character strengths.
