The present study aimed to determine the effectiveness of group cognitive behavioral therapy on psychological flexibility and experiential avoidance in parents of children with autism spectrum disorder. This study was a quasi-experimental study with a pre-test-post-test design and a control group with a three-month follow-up period. The statistical population of the study included all parents of children with autism spectrum disorder who referred to counseling centers in Urmia in 2024-2025, from which 28 people were selected through convenience sampling and randomly assigned to two groups: the experimental group (14 people) and the control group (14 people). Data were collected using the Cognitive Flexibility Questionnaire of Dennis and Vander Wal CFI (2010) and the Multidimensional Experiential Avoidance Questionnaire of Gomez et al. MEAQ (2011). The experimental group participated in the group cognitive behavioral therapy intervention program for eight 90-minute sessions over two months. The data were analyzed using repeated measures ANOVA. The findings indicated that the psychological flexibility variable showed a significant difference across the pre-test, post-test, and follow-up stages (p<0.05, d=3.09). Similarly, the experiential avoidance variable also demonstrated a significant difference between these three stages (p<0.05, d = -1.90). According to the results of the study, cognitive behavioral therapy is effective in reducing experiential avoidance and increasing psychological flexibility by strengthening the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral capabilities of parents.
