Abstract: (95 Views)
The present study aimed to compare the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and mentalization-based therapy (MBT) on the emotional-social competence of female students with Internet addiction. The present study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test, and included a control group with a two-month follow-up period. The statistical population of this study was female high school students in Abarkooh city (Yazd province) in 2024. 45 people were selected from two schools using a non-random sampling method and randomly assigned to three groups: experimental 1 (15 people), experimental 2 (15 people), and control (15 people). The Emotional-Social Competence Questionnaire (ESCQ; Zhou & Ee, 2012) and the Internet Addiction Test (IAT; Young, 1996) were used to collect data. Each of the treatment groups received the interventions as a group during 8 treatment sessions. Repeated measures analysis of variance was used for statistical analysis. The results showed that the pre-test of social-emotional competence was significantly different from the post-test and follow-up scores (P<0.05). The results also indicated that both treatments produced significant changes in social-emotional competence compared to the control group (P<0.05); while it was found that there was no significant difference between the two interventions of CBT and MBT (P<0.05). In fact, both treatments had the same effect on increasing social-emotional competence. Overall, it can be concluded that both CBT and MBT interventions had the same effectiveness in increasing individuals' social-emotional competence.
