Abstract: (6 Views)
The present study aimed to investigate a causal model of parental burnout in the mothers of children with cancer, based on empathy for the child, with the mediating role of maternal mindfulness. The present descriptive-correlational study employed structural equation modeling. The statistical population consisted of mothers of children under 14 years of age diagnosed with cancer who were referred to Omid Hospital in Isfahan in 2024. A sample of 250 participants was selected through convenience sampling. Participants completed the Parental Burnout Assessment (PBA; Roskam et al., 2018), the Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI; Davis, 1983), and the Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ; Baer et al., 2006). Data analysis was performed using structural equation modeling. The results showed that the proposed model had a good fit and explained a total of 62% of the variance of parental burnout. The findings showed that empathy for the child and mindfulness had a significant direct and negative effect on parental burnout. Furthermore, empathy for the child had a significant direct and positive effect on mindfulness (p< 0.001). The results of the bootstrap test showed that mindfulness had a mediating role between empathy for the child and parental burnout (p< 0.001). Accordingly, it can be concluded that empathy for the child had a direct effect on parental burnout, with a mediating role of maternal mindfulness in the mothers of children with cancer.
