This study was conducted to investigate the mediating role of humor styles in relation to early maladaptive schemas and clinical symptoms in students.This descriptive-correlation study was based on structural equation modeling. The statistical population of this research was the students of Islamic Azad University of Rasht in the academic year 2024. 300 students were selected through convenience sampling and completed the Symptom Checklist-25 (SCL-25; Najarian & Davodian, 2002), the third version of Young's Early Maladaptive Schemas Questionnaire (YSQ-S3; Young et al., 2003), and Humor Styles Questionnaire (HSQ; Martin et al., 2003). The findings indicated that the modified model had a good fit. The results showed that early maladaptive schemas had a direct, positive, and significant effect on clinical symptoms (P<0.05). Early maladaptive schemas had a direct negative effect on adaptive humor styles and a direct, positive, and significant effect on maladaptive humor styles (P<0.05). The bootstrap test results showed that adaptive and maladaptive humor styles mediated the relationship between early maladaptive schemas and clinical symptoms (P<0.05). In general, it can be concluded Maladaptive schemas had a direct and mediated effect on students' clinical symptoms through humor styles.
