Abstract: (125 Views)
The aim of the present study was to compare the feasibility of prospective memory training using a researcher-designed program with the Waldum's prospective memory intervention program on daily living activities of boys with high-functioning autism spectrum disorder. The research method was a quasi-experimental design with pre-test, post-test, and control group, along with a one-month follow-up period. The statistical population consisted of boys aged 6 to 12 years with high-functioning autism spectrum disorder in Rasht in 2023. A total of 45 children were purposefully selected and randomly assigned into three groups with 15 participants each. The first group received the researcher-designed prospective memory training in 15 sessions, the second group received the Waldum prospective memory intervention program in 8 sessions. To collect data, the Waisman Activities of Daily Living Scale (Maenner et al., 2013; W-ADL) was used. Data were analyzed using repeated measures ANOVA. The results showed that the mean differences between the pre-test, post-test, and follow-up were significant (P< 0.05), while no significant difference was observed between post-test and follow-up (P>0.05). Furthermore, the results indicated that the differences between the experimental groups and the control group were significant (P<0.05), but no significant difference was found between the two experimental groups (P>0.05). Accordingly, since the Waldum prospective memory intervention program achieved similar outcomes to the researcher-designed training package with fewer sessions, it can be recommended as a more efficient and cost-effective option for improving daily living activities of boy with high-functioning autism.
