Abstract: (321 Views)
The present study aimed to examine the mediating role of guilt in the relationship between self-compassion and intrinsic motivation among university students. The method of this research was descriptive-correlational using a structural equation modeling design (SEM). The statistical population consisted of students at the University of Sistan and Baluchestan in Zahedan during the 2024–2025 academic year, 200 individuals, using convenience sampling, responded to the self-report Intrinsic Motivation Inventory (IMI; McAuley et al., 1989), the Self-Compassion Scale (SCS-SF; Raes et al., 2011), and the Guilt Inventory (GI; Kugler & Jones, 1992). Structural equation modeling was used to analyze the data. The results indicated that the proposed model had a good fit. Findings also showed that self-compassion and guilt had significant direct relationships with intrinsic motivation; moreover, the direct relationship between self-compassion and guilt was significant (P< 0.001). The bootstrap test results showed that guilt had a significant mediating role between self-compassion and intrinsic motivation (P< 0.01). Overall, Accordingly, it can be concluded that self-compassion is directly and indirectly (through the mediating role of guilt) related to intrinsic .motivation
