Abstract: (5 Views)
The present study was conducted to examine the mediating role of sensation seeking in the structural model of the relationships between dark personality traits and adolescents’ bullying behaviors. The research design was descriptive–correlational using structural equation modeling (SEM). The statistical population consisted of male and female high school students (second grade of secondary education) in Sirvan County during the 2023–2024 academic year, from whom 268 participants were selected through convenience sampling. Data were collected using the Illinois Bully Scale (IBS; Espelage & Holt, 2001), the Short Dark Triad scale (SDT; Jonason & Webster, 2010), and the Zuckerman Sensation Seeking Scale (ZSSS; Zuckerman et al., 1981). Structural equation modeling was employed to analyze the data. The findings indicated that the proposed conceptual model demonstrated an acceptable fit to the data. Furthermore, dark personality traits and sensation seeking were both positively and significantly associated with adolescents’ bullying behaviors (p < .01). In addition, bootstrap analysis revealed that sensation seeking played a significant mediating role in the relationship between dark personality traits and bullying behaviors (p < .05). The results underscore the importance of placing greater emphasis on dark personality traits and sensation seeking in preventive programs aimed at reducing bullying behaviors among adolescents.
