Abstract: (15 Views)
The present study aimed to determine the effectiveness of solution-focused therapy on parenting self-efficacy and feelings of entrapment among mothers of male children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The research design was quasi-experimental with a pretest–posttest control group. The statistical population consisted of mothers of male children with ADHD who were referred to counseling and psychological services centers in District 2 of Tehran in 2025. Using purposive sampling, 30 mothers of male children with ADHD were selected and randomly assigned to an experimental group and a control group (15 participants in each group). The measurement instruments included the Parenting Self-Agency Measure (PSAM; Dumka et al., 1996) and the Entrapment Scale (ES; Gilbert & Allan, 1998). The experimental group received solution-focused therapy in eight 90-minute group sessions, while the control group did not receive any intervention during this period. Data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA). The findings indicated that, after controlling for pretest scores, there were significant differences between the experimental and control groups in posttest parenting self-efficacy and feelings of entrapment (p < .01). These results suggest that solution-focused therapy is effective in increasing parenting self-efficacy and reducing feelings of entrapment among mothers of male children with ADHD.
