Abstract: (6 Views)
The present study aimed to examine the prediction of maternal sense of competence in mothers of children with hyperactivity based on personal distress and fathers’ involvement. The research method was descriptive-correlational, using regression analysis. The statistical population consisted of all mothers and fathers of children with hyperactivity disorder who were members of or referred to the Hyperactive Children Association in Tehran in 2025, from whom 200 participants (including 100 mothers and 100 fathers) were selected through purposive sampling. The research instruments included the Parenting Stress Scale (PSS; Abidin, 1991), the Empathy Questionnaire (EQ; Davis, 1983), and the Father Involvement Scale (FIS; Shelton et al., 1996). Data were analyzed using simultaneous multiple regression analysis. The results of multiple regression analysis indicated that personal distress and fathers’ involvement were significant predictors of maternal sense of competence in mothers of children with hyperactivity (p<0.05). Overall, personal distress and fathers’ involvement explained 14.1% of the variance in maternal sense of competence. Therefore, it can be concluded that reducing personal distress and increasing fathers’ active involvement play an important role in enhancing maternal sense of competence among mothers of children with hyperactivity, and these two variables are important factors in explaining changes in maternal sense of competence.
