Abstract:   (947 Views)
Virtual reality (VR) is increasingly used as a therapeutic tool in psychology or healthcare. In recent years, virtual reality interventions for disorders such as depression, anxiety, and phobia have also been widely considered. However, there is still no comprehensive review to identify future directions for progress in this area. In the meantime, with the advancement of network technology, 3D virtual environments will be known as "Metaverse" - the digital equivalent of the physical world. They will offer a new realm of psychological reality and interaction. At the same time, while avatars are digital beings, their interactions and relationships are ultimately dictated by the thoughts and feelings of a physical person. Thus, the study of avatar-mediated interaction not only has the potential to illuminate the dynamics of a new kind of digital reality but also addresses aspects of human psychology that are relevant in multiple domains of identity. This study describes the application of VR in psychiatric disorders by conducting a systematic review, describing the limitations of existing research, proposing ways for future research to address gaps in the current literature, and providing practical recommendations for integrating VR into other treatments for psychiatric disorders. Finally, it introduces the metaverse world as an emerging phenomenon in treating mental disorders. To review studies on 3D or meta-virtual environments, examining the use of virtual reality in psychiatric disorders (such as post-traumatic stress disorder, phobias, anxiety disorders, and depression), PubMed, Google Scholar, and Science Direct databases were searched. This study supports the positive effect of virtual reality and 3D world therapy on psychiatric disorders.
