Abstract: (24 Views)
The present study aimed to determine the effectiveness of emotion-focused group therapy on distress tolerance and social competence of male students with externalizing behavioral problems. The research method was a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test-post-test design and a control group. The statistical population of the study was all male students in the first year of high school in the academic year 1403-1404 in Khorramabad city, from which a sample of 30 students who scored high on the Teacher Report Form of the Behavioral Questionnaire for Children and Adolescents (TRF, Achenbach and Rescorla, 2001) were selected using cluster sampling and randomly assigned to two groups of 15 (experimental and control groups). First, both groups were assessed using the Distress Tolerance Scale (DTS, Simmons & Gahr, 2005) and Perceived Social Competence (PSCS, Anderson-Butcher, 2008). Then the experimental group underwent emotion-focused therapy in 8 90-minute sessions. The results of multivariate analysis of covariance of the data showed that, after controlling for the pretest effect, there was a significant difference at the 0.001 level between the mean post-test scores of distress tolerance and social competence in the two groups. Therefore, it can be concluded that the emotion-focused therapy group was effective in the distress tolerance and social competence of male students with externalizing behavior problems.
