Abstract:   (21 Views)
This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of self-determination skills training on desire thinking and psychological needs in students with problematic online behaviors. The research method was quasi-experimental with a pretest-posttest design and a control group, including a 2-month follow-up period. The statistical population consisted of female high school students in Ardabil during the 2024 academic year. From this population, 30 students with problematic online behaviors were selected through purposive sampling and randomly assigned to either the experimental or control group (15 students each). The experimental group participated in nine 90-minute sessions of self-determination skills training (one session per week). The measurement tools included the Desire Thinking Questionnaire (DTQ, Caselli & Spada, 2011), the Basic Need Satisfaction Scale (BNSS, Guardia et al., 2000), the Online Game Addiction Inventory (OGAI, Wang & Chang, 2009), and the Social Networking Addiction Questionnaire (ASNQ, Ahmadi et al., 2016). The results of repeated measures ANOVA showed a significant difference (p < 0.001) in desire thinking and psychological needs between the pretest and posttest in the experimental and control groups. Additionally, no significant difference (p < 0.001) was observed between the posttest and follow-up means in the experimental group, indicating that the results were maintained during the follow-up period. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that group-based self-determination skills training is an effective intervention for improving desire thinking and psychological needs in students with problematic online behaviors.
