Abstract:   (37 Views)
This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) on reducing rumination in mothers of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Employing a quasi-experimental design with pre-test, post-test, a control group, and a 3-month follow-up, the research sampled 45 mothers of children with ASD in Nikshahr County in 2024, selected via convenience sampling. Participants were randomly assigned to three groups of 15: two experimental groups (ACT and ISTDP) and one control group. The Rumination Response Scale (RRS; Nolen-Hoeksema, 1991) was the primary outcome measure. Both interventions consisted of eight individual 60-minute sessions. Data were analyzed using repeated measures analysis of variance. Results indicated that both ACT and ISTDP interventions led to a significant reduction in rumination scores at post-test compared to the control group (p < 0.001), with these effects maintained at the 3-month follow-up. However, ISTDP demonstrated a significantly greater reduction in rumination compared to ACT (p = 0.003). It can be concluded that ISTDP was more effective than ACT in reducing rumination among mothers of children with ASD. These findings suggest ISTDP holds a comparative advantage for alleviating rumination in this population.
