Abstract: (41 Views)
The present study aimed to compare the effectiveness of emotion-focused therapy and life therapy on psychological distress in patients with coronary heart disease and anxiety syndrome. The present study was a quasi-experimental study with a pre-test-post-test design and a control group with a three-month follow-up period. The statistical population of this study included female patients with coronary artery disease with anxiety syndrome in Babol city in 2024. 45 people were selected by a non-random sampling method from the cardiac ward of Mehregan Hospital in Babol city and were randomly assigned to three groups: experimental 1 (15 people), experimental 2 (15 people), and control (15 people). Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI; Beck et al., 1993) and Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (KPDS, Kessler et al., 2010) were used to collect data. Emotion-focused therapy and life therapy were presented in groups during 8 90-minute sessions. Data were analyzed using repeated measures analysis of variance. The results showed that compared to the control group, both interventions reduced psychological distress at the post-test and follow-up compared to the pre-test (P<0.05); also, pairwise comparisons showed that there was a significant difference between the two treatments in reducing psychological distress at the post-test and follow-up (P<0.05). Overall, it can be concluded that both emotion-focused therapy and life therapy were effective in reducing psychological distress; however, life therapy had a greater effect over time.
