Abstract: (486 Views)
The present study aimed to determine the effectiveness of schema therapy on anxiety sensitivity and negative affect in adolescents with major depressive disorder. The research method was a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group and a three-month follow-up period. The statistical population consisted of adolescents diagnosed with major depressive disorder who had been referred to psychology and psychiatry centers in the city of Saveh in 2025. From this population, 30 participants were selected using purposive sampling and were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. Data were collected using the Anxiety Sensitivity Index developed by Floyd et al. (ASI, 2005) and the Negative Affect scale developed by Mitmansgruber et al. (MIES, 2009). The experimental group received a group-based intervention consisting of 10 weekly sessions. Data analysis was conducted using repeated measures analysis of variance. The findings showed that there were significant differences between the experimental and control groups in anxiety sensitivity and negative affect from pretest to posttest at the 0.001 significance level. In addition, no significant differences were observed between posttest and follow-up mean scores in the experimental group at the 0.001 level, indicating that the treatment effects were maintained during the follow-up period. Based on the results of the study, schema therapy can be considered an effective intervention for improving anxiety sensitivity and negative affect in adolescents with major depressive disorder.
