Abstract: (185 Views)
The present study aimed to predict adolescents’ social anxiety based on perceived burdensomeness, ambivalence over emotional expression, and self-differentiation. This study was descriptive-correlational. The statistical population included first and second-year high school students in Shiraz in the academic year 2024-2025. 250 people were selected using multistage cluster sampling and responded to the social anxiety questionnaires of (SPIN, Connor et al., 2000), interpersonal needs of (INQ, Van Oarden et al., 2012), emotional ambivalence of (AEQ, King and Emmons, 1990), and differentiation of (DSI, Skowron & Friedlander, 1998). The data were analyzed using multiple regression analysis. The results showed that perceived burdensomeness, ambivalence over emotional expression, and self-differentiation explained 69% of the variance in social anxiety in adolescents. Also, perceived burdensomeness and ambivalence over emotional expression positively and self-differentiation negatively were significant predictors of social anxiety (p≤0.007). These findings indicate that cognitive emotional factors simultaneously play an important role in explaining adolescent social anxiety, and paying attention to these factors can help to more accurately understand the underlying processes of this disorder during adolescence.
