Abstract: (10 Views)
The present study aimed to determining the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment group therapy on assertiveness, social isolation and fear of negative evaluation of shy female students. The research method was a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest design with a control group. The statistical population was female students in the second year of high school in Ardabil in the academic year 2025-2026, of which 39 people were selected as a statistical sample by Purposeful sampling after screening and were randomly assigned to acceptance and commitment therapy groups (n=19) and a control group (n=20). The experimental group received 8 75-minute sessions of acceptance and commitment group therapy. In order to collect data, the Revised Cheek and Buss Shyness Scale (RSS; Chick- Briggs, 1990), Gambrill-Richey assertion inventory (GRA; Gambrill & Richey, 1975), Social isolation questionnaire (SIQ; Chalpi & Amirkaf, 2004), and Brief Fear of Negative Evaluation Scale (BFNE; Leary, 1985) were used. Multivariate analysis of covariance was used to analyze the data. The findings showed that by controlling for the pre-test effect, there was a significant difference at the 0.01 level between the post-test mean of the variables of assertiveness, social isolation, and fear of negative evaluation of shy students in the experimental and control groups. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that acceptance and commitment-based group therapy is one of the desirable options for working with shy students.
