Abstract: (33 Views)
This research aimed to study the perception of adolescent girls with risky behaviors regarding the characteristics of the parent-child relationship. The study employed a qualitative approach and thematic analysis method. The research field included adolescent girls aged 14 to 19 with risky behaviors. The participants consisted of 11 adolescent girls with risky behaviors, who were selected through purposeful and convenience sampling. Semi-structured interviews were used to collect data, and the Iranian Adolescents' Risk-Taking Questionnaire was used to identify risky adolescents. The interview process lasted from May to September 2024 (approximately four months). For data analysis, the six-phase method by Braun and Clarke was used. The results from the data analysis led to the formation of a core theme: "Parents' inability to regulate negative emotions and perform parental roles leads to the lack of acceptance and intimacy and the violation of adolescents' autonomy." Additionally, eight main themes emerged: violation of adolescent autonomy, instrumental treatment of the child, boundary disturbances (ambiguity, inflexibility, fragmentation, enmeshment), parents' role conflict and misalignment, inability to regulate negative emotions, failure to understand the adolescent's world, lack of security and acceptance, and lack of intimacy and support. The results of the study indicated that adolescents with risky behaviors are not satisfied with their relationship with their parents. Therefore, the use of incorrect behaviors in the parent-child relationship can lead adolescents toward risky behaviors.
